Leaders for Peace

A talk by Michael North, of the Zhou Enlai Peace Institute, about the long-lasting influence of the most courageous peacemakers on their nations, and on the world.

Begins with a special message from Zhou Xiaofang, sent from Changshu China for the occasion.

Part of the “Free Spirit” Exhibit, November 23, 2024.

Special Message from Zhou Xiaofang:

Welcome to the “Free Spirit of Hawaii” exhibit.

We are grateful to our host, Leigh-Wai Doo, for his dedication to the shared history between Hawaii and China. Today, we celebrate Sen-Yet Young, a Hawaii-born aviator whose adventurous spirit contributed to the founding of the Chinese Air Force.

We honor Sun Yat-Sen, the “Father of Modern China,” whose revolutionary vision was shaped by his education at Punahou School in Hawaii, and by the aloha spirit of the islands.

Early leaders of China’s independence movement, including Sun Yat-Sen and Zhou Enlai, shaped modern China a century ago. Their work continues to grow.

We thank the National Museum of Zhongshan, China, for providing this elegant exhibit. It symbolizes the shared values of collaboration and mutual respect that unite Hawaii and China. This will be a bridge connecting the past and present, fostering understanding and friendship between two great nations.

We invite you to celebrate the “Free Spirit” within all of us.
