Remembering the 49th Anniversary
of Premier Zhou Enlai’s Passing
Forty-nine years have passed in a hurry.
The rivers still flow, the mountains still stand tall.
But your magnificent figure
Has long since been absorbed into the sinews and blood of China.
Like the sun and the moon, you have always existed between heaven and earth.
You are a light before the dawn.
Guiding the way in the darkness;
You are a thunderbolt in times of crisis.
awakening hundreds of millions of people.
Every cornerstone of the new China has been stained
with your endless toil and dedication.
In the years when everything was in ruins,
You solved thousands of problems with a sincere heart.
You dialogued with the world, using the Five Principles as a bridge.
You made the voice of peace resonate through the clouds
At the Asia-Africa Bandung Conference.
Your calmness and wisdom have won the respect of the four seas.
You said, “Study for the rise of China.”
This is not only a young man’s ambition.
It is also your lifelong belief and pursuit.
For the sake of the people, you have devoted yourself to your work;
For the country, you work day and night;
Even when you were sick
You never let go of your responsibility.
Now, forty-nine years have passed by quietly.
But your spirit, like the spring wind and rain.
Moistened every inch of the Chinese land.
Your clean and honest demeanor,
like a mirror hanging in the heart.
Shining a light on the road ahead of future generations.
Ah – Premier! Dear Premier Zhou.
Your life is a poem of no regrets.
The embodiment of loyalty and dedication.
At this moment of remembrance,
with deep respect.
To carry on your dream,
with your unfinished mission,
to lift up a glorious tomorrow
for China and the world.
